Stress Point Massage
Jack Meagher is one of the pioneers of Equine Bodywork and the founder of the stress point method. A stress point is the result of tightness in muscle tissue which induces a change of muscle function and may cause discomfort and limit the full range of motion, so a bit like a "traffic jam" in the muscle. The located stress points are treated with a combination of compression and cross fibre massage techniques.
The major intent of stress point massage is to prevent injury by reducing muscular tightness and to restore free range of motion. Stress points can often tell us a lot about the horse like indicate that an ill-fitting saddle has been used just to name one example.
